Another PGA Tour season is in the books and similar to past years, SuperStroke golf grips were among the most common pieces of equipment found in the bags of those who picked up titles. The putter grips remain a staple for Tour players of all stripes, but also gaining momentum this season were the swing grips, which are rapidly gaining a loyal following at both the professional and amateur levels.
Brand ambassador Jordan Spieth had shining moments in 2020-21 and picked up respective wins at the Valero Texas Open and Sanderson Farms Championship. More details on those victories and every other win from a SuperStroke user below.
The New Year and a Resurgent Jordan Spieth
As the calendar turned to 2021, the new year started similarly to how the previous one ended, as SuperStroke picked up six victories in the first three months. Beyond the titles, the golf world was also buzzing about Jordan Spieth’s hot start, as he compiled four top-10 finishes over the winter.
The first win for the brand came at The American Express, held at Pete Dye’s difficult PGA WEST Stadium Course in La Quinta, CA., where the champ relied on SuperStroke’s popular Traxion Tour putter grip.
Next was the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Links, where the winner used the Traxion Pistol GT 1.0 putter grip, the same model preferred by the 2020 Masters Champion.
This was followed by two wins in the same week, one at the WGC-Workday Championship contested at The Concession Golf Club, and the second at the Puerto Rico Open played at Grand Reserve Country Club. The respective winners of these two events used the same model of grip to get the job done, the Traxion Claw 1.0. The Claw® profile is designed to work with the many variations of this fast-growing, deadly accurate putting style. It incorporates a pistol-style top section, while three flat sides increase surface area to accommodate different lower hand positions.
In March, SuperStroke added two more wins to their tally. First, at THE PLAYERS Championship held at iconic TPC Sawgrass, where the winner captured a dramatic win using the Traxion Pistol GT Tour putter grip. Three weeks later at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in the Dominican Republic the champion used S-Tech grips on each of his swing clubs.
Jordan Spieth Back in the Winner’s Circle
In a season filled with big-name winners, perhaps the most exciting moment came when Jordan Spieth captured his first title since 2017, with an emotional victory at the Valero Texas Open. Momentum had been building with Speith all winter and he sealed the deal with a two-shot victory at TPC San Antonio.
Ever since bursting onto the professional golf scene in 2014, Jordan has trusted SuperStroke’s Traxion Flatso 1.0 model as the preferred putter grip of his Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS. It was at his side when he captured the Green Jacket and set a new scoring record, as well as at Chambers Bay when he outlasted Dustin Johnson to win the U.S. Open, and again during miraculous closing holes at the 2017 Open Championship. He kept the winning formula intact during 2021. On his other clubs were the S-Tech grips that have helped him maintain his status as one of the greatest ball-strikers of this generation.
Six other TOUR winners emerged using SuperStorke grips during the Spring months. They included one member of the winning Australian Duo at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, who trusted the Traxion 1.0 PT. That was followed by four wins for the Traxion Pistol GT – Wells Fargo Championship, AT&T Byron Nelson, Charles Scwhab Challenge and Palmetto Championship – and one for the Traxion Flatso 1.0 at the Memorial. The latter features a distinct pentagonal “Flatso” profile with a wide, flat front grip shape with five pronounced edges.
SuperStroke Captures Gold Medal, Open Championship and FedEx Cup to Wrap Season
SuperStroke rounded out the 2021 campaign with a blistering summer that included six additional wins on either the PGA TOUR or major international events.
The final charge started at the Rocket Mortgage at historic Detroit Golf Club, where the champ navigated the classic layout to near perfection with his Traxion Pistol GT 1.0.
Next came two overseas titles, the first at the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in England. As usual, the wind was whipping and scoring was difficult, but for the second time this season the champion sunk putt after putt with his Traxion Tour 1.0 to become only the eighth player in the last 100 years with multiple major wins before age 25. Also on the list – SuperStroke ambassador Jordan Spieth.
Two weeks later in Japan, the Traxion Tour 2.0 helped the Americans capture gold. That same model of grip was in the bag of the winner at the final event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the Wyndham Championship at Sedgewood Country Club in Greensboro, NC.
The year ended with fireworks and saw the emergence of a young player who established himself as the game’s next superstar by winning the final legs of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and the FedEx Cup in the process. His first came at the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club, and the second at the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga. As he did earlier in the season at The Memorial, he trusted the Traxion Flatso 1.0 to get the job done.
All-in-all it was a record-setting season for SuperStroke that showed how the best in the world trust their extensive grip catalog, both putter and full-swing, to optimize their performance on the course.
